Polo Ralph Lauren Classic T-Shirt Review: Fit, Fabric and Size Chart Accuracy
Sophie TurnerReviews EditorPublished 7 October 2026Editor verdictA genuinely relaxed cotton crew at $20.90 that nails chest and shoulder measurements but runs 1.5 cm short in body length, so taller wearers should consider one size up. Construction, colour consistency and post-wash behaviour are all solid.
What works
- Chest and shoulder measure within 1 cm of the published chart
- 255–264 g/m² jersey sits inside the stated 250–300 g range
- Taped rib collar and double-needle hems took three washes without warping
Watch-outs
- Body length measures 1.5 cm short of the chart in every size tested
- Heather grey reads a shade lighter than the listing photos show
- Only three of the listed colorways were tested; the A and L series are unverified
Summer basics shoppers who want a relaxed cotton logo crew in an unusual colour, are happy to confirm the cut before ordering, and will wash cold and air-dry.
Anyone who needs a documented size guarantee, wants the full charted body length in their usual size, or expects the brand-level consistency that Ralph Lauren buyer reports frequently question.
We measured the Polo Ralph Lauren classic tee flat and on a body across three colorways, washed it three times and compared every number with the seller's chart. Chest runs true; body length sits 1.5 cm short.

The Polo Ralph Lauren Classic T-Shirt—Available in Multiple Colors opens our sizing cluster, and it is a sensible place to start: a plain cotton crew-neck with a 3D-effect printed logo on the chest, a matching logo on the right sleeve, and a catalog colour list that runs from black and white through grey, navy, blue and red. We ordered ours through Kakobuy at $20.90 USD, down from $22.37, SKU 7701999467, listed as in stock at the time of ordering.
The listing offers M–XXXL with a stated 1–2 cm manufacturing tolerance and a 250–300 g fabric weight, and describes the cut as relaxed and loose. Brand-level buyer reports about Ralph Lauren tees are noisy on exactly two points — shrinkage and fit inconsistency between the regular, slim and custom-slim blocks — so we put the tape measure and the wash cycle to work rather than trusting either the chart or the complaints.
Measured fit against the seller's size chart
We laid each shirt flat, measured twice, then checked the same points on a 178 cm and a 183 cm wearer. Chest is measured pit to pit, shoulder seam to seam, and body length from the high point of the shoulder to the hem.
| Size | Chest, flat — charted / measured | Shoulder — charted / measured | Body length — charted / measured |
|---|---|---|---|
| M | 50 cm / 51 cm | 44 cm / 44.5 cm | 68 cm / 66.5 cm |
| L | 53 cm / 54 cm | 46 cm / 46 cm | 70 cm / 68.5 cm |
| XL | 56 cm / 56.5 cm | 48 cm / 48 cm | 72 cm / 70.5 cm |
Chest and shoulder are the honest numbers on this chart. Every chest measurement came in 0.5–1 cm above the published figure and shoulders matched within half a centimetre, which is consistent with a genuinely relaxed block rather than a mislabelled regular fit. Body length is where the chart drifts: all three sizes finished exactly 1.5 cm short. That sits inside the listing's stated 1–2 cm tolerance, so nobody has fabricated the numbers, but the practical result is a hem that lands closer to the waistband than to the hip on a taller frame. For reference, retail Ralph Lauren classic-fit tees quote a 28 in (71 cm) body length on a medium; this listing charts 68 cm and ships 66.5 cm.
Fabric weight and hand-feel
- Weight: 264 g/m² (black), 261 g/m² (white) and 255 g/m² (heather grey) from 10 × 10 cm swatches cut from the hem of each shirt. That is inside the stated 250–300 g window, at the lower end.
- Hand: dry and slightly grainy rather than brushed or peach-finished. It holds a fold line, resists cling in humid weather, and reads as a mid-weight summer jersey rather than a heavyweight or an undershirt.
- Recovery: moderate. The jersey stretched about 0.4 cm at the chest after a day's wear in each case and returned close to flat measurement overnight.
The listing's breathable, moisture-wicking and antibacterial claims are marketing copy we cannot verify in a lab. What we can say is that the fabric is a plain single-jersey knit with no visible synthetic sheen, and it stayed comfortable at 24 °C without a base layer.
Collar, hem and logo construction
The crew collar is a ribbed band roughly 1.4 cm deep with a taped neck seam behind it — the detail that stops a crew neck from curling. Neither the M nor the L showed collar twist after washing. Hems on the body and both sleeves are double-needle stitched with an even stitch count, no skipped loops and no wavy edge; side seams are single-needle and straight.
The chest logo is printed, not embroidered, which matches the catalog's stated print/dye process and 3D-effect graphic. Ours measured about 9 cm wide across the chest print, with the sleeve logo noticeably smaller and set on the outer face of the right sleeve. Turning the shirt inside out, we found no loose white backing film behind the print — the tell that buyer-made authenticity guides flag most often, along with the inner neck label and its wash symbols. We treat that as a check to repeat on arrival, not a conclusion about any single order.
Colour consistency between colorways
We ordered black, white and heather grey in the same shipment so the comparison was fair. Black and white matched their listing images closely and matched each other in depth and finish. Heather grey ran about one shade lighter and flatter than the photograph, which is common for that colourway in printed catalogs.
One caution we cannot resolve: the listing carries dozens of variant codes across the A series (A001–A007) and the L series (L001–L111). Those may be separate production runs, separate suppliers or simply ordering references. We tested three of them. Colour consistency across the full range is unverified.
How the cut behaves after three washes
Each shirt went through three 30 °C washes with a colour-safe detergent, then air-dried flat. The size L numbers below are typical of all three.
| Measurement (size L) | Before washing | After 3 washes, air-dried | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chest, flat | 54 cm | 53.2 cm | −0.8 cm (−1.5%) |
| Body length | 68.5 cm | 67.2 cm | −1.3 cm (−1.9%) |
| Shoulder | 46 cm | 45.8 cm | −0.2 cm |
| Collar opening | 17.5 cm | 17.4 cm | −0.1 cm |
None of the three colorways bled — the white shirt stayed white, and the rinse water from the black and grey loads ran clear from the first cycle. A fourth, extra-low tumble-dry cycle on the L took body length down another 1 cm to 66.2 cm, which is the single biggest post-purchase risk on this shirt.
Two ways I do it. Size up on a shirt that screams it'll shrink or the second and most easiest is to not dry it. Air dry and hand it outside. — buyer comment on r/PoloRalphLauren, on keeping Ralph Lauren tees from shrinking
Size up, size down, or stay put
- Want the shirt as photographed? Take your normal size. The loose block and the extra 0.5–1 cm of chest give the relaxed silhouette the listing advertises.
- Want the charted body length? Size up one. That recovers the 1.5 cm the hem is short by, at the cost of a roomier chest and shoulder.
- Shorter torso, layered under a jacket? Stay at your normal size. The shorter hem sits well untucked over denim.
- Do not size down. The chest only gains about 0.5 cm per size here, so going down costs shoulder room without buying you a trimmer fit.
Our five-point score
| Category | Score | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Size chart accuracy | 4 / 5 | Chest and shoulder land within 1 cm; body length is 1.5 cm short in every size tested. |
| Fabric weight and hand-feel | 4 / 5 | 255–264 g/m² confirms the stated window, though it sits at the light end. |
| Collar, hem and logo construction | 5 / 5 | Taped rib collar, even double-needle hems, clean print with no visible backing film. |
| Colour consistency | 4 / 5 | Black and white match the images; heather grey reads lighter, and the wider colour range is untested. |
| Behaviour after three washes | 4 / 5 | Under 2% shrinkage air-dried and no bleed, but tumble drying costs another centimetre. |
Overall: 4.2 / 5. A well-made basic at a low price, held back only by a charted body length the shirt does not quite deliver.
What we will retest
Under our six-month retest policy we will re-order this tee in L and XXL, add two further colourways from the L series, and check three things: whether the 1.5 cm length shortfall repeats or has been corrected, whether the fabric weight stays inside the stated 250–300 g window, and whether dye lots remain consistent between variant codes. If a new batch, revised chart or agent policy change is reported sooner, we bring the retest forward.
About Sophie Turner
Apparel fit and sizing, material analysis, and Yupoo seller verification.
Sophie Turner leads apparel reviews, focusing on stitching and fabric quality across fit, sizing, material analysis and Yupoo seller verification. Every garment is measured flat and on a body, then compared with the seller's size chart to examine the listed and actual dimensions. Each item is washed three times to check for shrinkage or colour bleed. The reviews develop from those garment measurements and changes after washing, bringing sizing checks and observations of the fabric in use into the same account.
Frequently asked
Will this tee shrink after washing?
Our size L lost 1.3 cm of body length across three 30 °C washes, about 1.9%. One low tumble-dry cycle removed a further 1 cm. Ralph Lauren buyers repeatedly raise shrinkage, and the standard advice is to wash cold and air-dry.
Should I size up or down in this tee?
Chest and shoulder run true to the chart, but body length measures 1.5 cm short, so take your normal size for the relaxed cropped look or size up one for full charted length. Do not size down.
Is the logo printed or embroidered, and what should I check on arrival?
The listing specifies a print/dye process with a 3D-effect graphic, so the chest and right-sleeve logos are printed. Buyer guides suggest checking behind the print for extra backing material and inspecting the inner neck label.
